Introduction

After the success of the 1st Hong Kong International Youth & Children’s Choir Festival in attracting 40 choirs from five continents in this international musical event in 2006, Hong Kong Treble Choirs’ Association is proud to present the 2008 Hong Kong International Youth & Children’s Choir Festival, which will be held from 14 July to 17 July 2008 in Hong Kong where has long been an ideal location for hosting international events due to the geographical advantages and cultural diversity.

The Festival comprises of choral competitions, concerts and clinics for local and overseas choirs. All competitions, concerts and clinics will be held in the Hong Kong City Hall, Hong Kong Cultural Centre and Shatin City Hall. Through organizing this festival, the Association hopes to provide an open and fair judging mechanism to all participating parties; to offer a exchange platform for youths from Hong Kong, Mainland and also worldwide to share their choral experiences and to offer an opportunity to achieve appreciation on cultural diversity and promote integration.

Hong Kong Treble Choirs’ Association (HKTCA)

Established in 1997, the Hong Kong Treble Choirs’ Association was founded by internationally renowned choral conductor and Vice President of International Federation for Choral Music, Mr. Leon Shiu-wai Tong and musician Mr. Ka-ki Lee. It is a registered charitable association which aims to promote Hong Kong’s children and youth singing and music education; organize high quality activities; elevate local choral standard and encourage cultural exchange internationally.

The Association has been supported by the Hong Kong Arts Development for four years and has furnished the Choral Music Information Centre, which has become a resourceful reference for local music teachers. Under the supervision of the directors and advisors, the Association has organized many choral activities including singing competitions, seminars in conducting, workshops, exchange tours and composing competitions. It has also hosted three International Children’s Choir Festival, China in 1998, 2001 and 2005 to great acclaim. The 2005 World Children’s Choir Festival has also been selected as one of the RTHK Music Highlights 2005. Besides, in March 2007, the Association has successfully held the Les Choristes In Concert in four cities including Hong Kong, Macau, Shenzhen and Guanzhou and in November 2007, a Finnish a cappella group, Club for Five, is invited to give the concert in Hong Kong.
